Coalition for MarriageAt the moment in the UK marriage is under threat! The government wishes to redefine it to include same-sex unions for no obviously good purpose. If you live in the UK please click on the picture above or go to the Coalition for Marriage website and sign the petition to let the government know that you wish them to leave marriage alone.

I don’t think any church should feel obligated to marry same sex couples but at the same time I think marriage as an institution should be open to all couples who are committed to one another. It’s oftentimes forgotten that couples are not afforded the same legal rights when they aren’t married and that can really have devastating effects (like a partner not being allowed in a hospital room, etc. ) Just my view…

Jessica in the UK same-sex couples already have the right to a ‘civil partnership’ which gives them the same rights as married couples. The government is trying to go one step further and change the very definition of marriage! That is what the petition is seeking to stop!

      Thanks for stopping by!

Mike, I try very hard not to be judgmental, but ingrained beliefs come into play. I don’t think that the government should change what has worked for millions of years. But, then again, you can’t fight the Bible and it clearly states in the Bible that change will occur. And, not necessarily ‘good’ change.

Hmm ok…a little different than what’s going on over here in the United States. Ok..I see it in more context now. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing this, its encouraging to see others standing up for whats right. I blogged on some developments on the issue, and also compared the responses of the two sides. So important to be Christlike in this.

The government is truly over-stepping the boundaries here. Marriage is defined in the Bible as being between a man and a woman. I’m sticking with that!
Blessings, Mike, and thanks for sharing this!

A few years ago a lesbian couple in my state (where same-sex marriage is not legal) tried to hire a Christian photographer to take pictures of the ceremony – the photographer refused on religious grounds. The couple sued the photographer and won – the photographer was ordered to pay a fine. Here in the USA, it may a little different than what is happening in the UK, but the core of the problem is the same. How sad it is!
